IT is one of the oldest student performing art organizations at the College. IT was officially born April 1, 1986 with the drafting of our official constitution. Nevertheless, the radioactive half-lives of some of our former members have indicated that IT may have informally been in the works some years beforehand. Today IT is a popular source of entertainment for its fellow classmates. We perform regularly at venues ranging from the Sunken Gardens, to the Kimball Theatre in Colonial Williamsburg, and even to other colleges and high schools. We also take an annual Fall Tour to Chicago, IL, the home of acclaimed improv/sketch groups Second City , Improv Olympics , and Comedy Sportz , where we attend shows and workshops from some of professional improv's finest.
IT's members come from all different social and academic backgrounds. You might be surprised to know that the vast majority of our members are not theater majors, but instead have included math, english, history, government, literary and cultural studies, religion, music, and more. The broader the background of our members, the broader the perspectives on life and comedy we can bring to our performances.
Of course, getting all of these different perspectives in tune can be a lot of work, which is why we practice three nights a week. But heck, you don't need to read about all this here. Just go over to our FAQ section if you have more questions, and if that still doesn't satisfy your quest for knowledge then you must be a Monroe scholar. Haha, no. Just email us at improvtheatre@wm.edu and we'll be happy to give you more info.
